I have been overcoming the flu for the past week. Although it is pretty contagious, I am hoping you won’t catch anything just from reading this post. Part of trying to get better: having smoothies! They can be packed full of great nutrients to help your body boost its immune system. I had some kiwis on hand, so take a look at what I came up with.
Using the recipe as I have it below, it ends up a little more juicy than most of the recipes I make. But I think it is quite refreshing this way. You could of course just add some ice or extra frozen fruit to the mix and thicken it up if you want. Your call.

Sliced Kiwi

Kiwis have such a unique and fun look. I should use them more often.

But like I was saying, it all started with some kiwi. I was actually planning on re-doing my most popular recipe on the site. What is it, you might ask? My take on the green machine smoothie.

Everyone seems to love that one. And I actually hate the picture for it. Some of the photos I took toward the beginning are truly quite terrible. Not that I am amazing now, but I have picked up a few things along the way.

But my efforts were thwarted when I failed to realize that our broccoli had been used up in another recipe. Yet I still had these kiwi fruits…
Since kiwis already have that tropical flair to them, it just seemed right to pair it with some of the other iconic tropical flavors. Pineapple, banana and mango all seem to invoke that same tropical feel. So I threw ’em in a blender and decided to see how it tasted.

I thought it came out pretty well. A lot of times banana and pineapple flavors can take over a smoothie if you aren’t careful. They are just too powerful. And if you find that you want a little more kiwi in the mix, put it in there! I am definitely not a strict recipe follower.

Diced Kiwi

The way I sliced the kiwi, they kind of looked like pickles.

If you are feeling you need a tropical flair to your day, look no further. It has just four simple ingredients and will really brighten up your mood. Here’s hoping it kicks this flu as well!

Any of you have special smoothies or ingredients you use when the flu comes calling? Let us know in the comments.
